Crosby Elected Vice Chair

Reston, VA – Mike Crosby of San Diego, California has been elected to a two-year term as vice chair of the Patient Advocacy Advisory Board (PAAB) for the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).

Mike “Bing” Crosby, Commander U.S. Navy retired, is president of Veterans Prostate Cancer Awareness Inc., a non-profit organization focused on raising awareness and educating our nation’s heroes about the number one diagnosed non-skin cancer within the Veterans Administration System.

Bing was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 2015. He advocated for his own care and eventually was able to receive prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) imaging, which has just been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This highly precise imaging drastically changed his cancer treatment plan, and he credits it with saving his life. Crosby holds a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, with a bachelor’s in applied science. He also is a graduate of the Allied Air Forces Central Europe’s Tactical Leadership Program as well as the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School, TOPGUN.

The SNMMI PAAB is composed of representatives from 15 patient advocacy organizations across multiple disease types, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung disease, thyroid cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, and others. Its purpose is to provide the SNMMI with a patient perspective for its activities and to engage and educate the patient community on the expanding role of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in diagnosing and treating disease.
